Description: William Brereton, Master of Ceremonies at the Lower Rooms fought a duel on behalf of his son-in-law on 12th February 1780 with Captain Spooner. Over a matter concerning gambling, Captain Spooner was wounded, but Brereton not touched. This poster is William Brereton's defence of his actions, dated at Bath, 27th March 1780.
