Description: The large timbers beside the rails on the curve are to keep the construction engine on track. The Somersetshire Coal Canal is in the cutting below the line to the left. A large amount still needs to be cut out of the hillside. Note the water tank on the far right of the hillside, to supply the steam navvy. From a set of 11 unique photographs, recording the construction of the Camerton to Limpley Stoke Railway. This mostly followed the route of the abandoned Somersetshire Coal Canal. Built by men assisted by a 'Steam Navvy', seen on the horizon. The railway is a temporary contractor's railway, built mostly on the canal towpath to bring in supplies. Copied from the photographer's original glass negative.
