Description: Here seen during its construction in 1900, this is the maltings of J.D. Taylor & Son, which was located at 19, Lower Bristol Road in Twerton, behind Avon Cottages (now the 'Weston Lock' retail park). The building was not built to contract, but the builders (Webb of Bath) were instructed to build using the best materials and methods. As a result, workers said it was built 'like a fortress'. The building suffered a major fire in March 1915 (report in the Bath Chronicle, 3rd April 1915).
