Description: This was moved from its original position nearer the village when the miners repeatedly demolished the gate. This was a common occurrence, as they considered the tolls to be an imposition and did not apparently realise that they provided a means of transporting the coal to the customer.
From a private collection of photographs from approximately the 1950s relating to the Turnpikes in Bath and the surrounding area. Attributed to Ken Marchant of Radstock.
