Description: A letter the previous week alerted readers to someone selling the timber from Beechen Cliff. Mr. Cox had bought the slope in 1866 for £200. A meeting proposed that the Council should offer £150 to him to purchase the land, with negotiations to follow. Hunt notes that it was purchased for £150 in 1860.
