Description: Gentlemen undertake croquet practice on the Rec, watched by the ladies sheltering in the sun under parasols. Croquet was played on the Rec from the late 1890's through to about 1940 with a large annual tournament in September each year. I suspect that this is a photograph of the annual tournament, as the Club only had 3 lawns throughout the year but that increased to 12 for the annual tournament.
