Description: Founded in 1711, this school was built in 1728 and attended by architect John Wood Sr. It was rebuilt in 1859, also allowing for the street to be widened. To the left is the General Hospital (Royal Mineral Water Hospital). The gap between the buildings is the garden of the Abbey Parsonage, later the site of the hospital extension. Boys, in their distinct blue coats and caps, file into the school as two cripples with crutches are on the street. A workman is laying paving stones in the left foreground.
