Description: A packed crowd at the Guildhall on 14th January 1971 listened to Sir John Betjeman lecture about the perils of insensitive development in Bath. He described modern buildings as 'rent collecting slabs of glass and steel pretending to be on modern lines, but merely done so because it is cheaper'. Her declared that the developers must be stopped as they are 'eating up the city'.
