Description: If you have ever visited Avoncliff and admired the aqueduct and surrounding landscape, this view will be of great interest. Once a thriving quarry, the stone was brought by tramway across the aqueduct and down to a wharf, where it was loaded onto the train as well as the neighbouring Kennet and Avon Canal. The quarry was used extensively during the second world war to store many of the nation's art treasures.
