Description: The level of detail on this superb photograph is amazing. Beyond the Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway (which crosses the image) St. Kilda's Rd., Faulkland Rd., First Avenue and Junction Rd. are as yet incomplete, while Second and Third Avenues appear completed. The brickworks in Monksdale Road (now the Sandpits play park) can be seen, as can the chimney of the brickworks in Dartmouth Avenue. As well as the known Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway bridges at Monksdale Rd. and Hiscocks Drive, there is a further intriguing archway under the railway in the vicinity of the Moorfields Hotel. The level of detail in the distance allows views of the Bath gasworks (Upper Bristol Road) with chimney, St. Andrew's Church (Julian Rd), St. Michael's cemetery chapel and the obelisk in Royal Victoria Park. On the skyline are the Royal School, Kingswood School and Fonthill House.
Postcard by George Love Dafnis of Bath. Copied from a private original postcard. These are postcards for which no original glass negative has been found and are included to make the collection as comprehensive as possible.
