Description: Autumn 1967. The famous grounded coach body used for enginemen's 'Mutual Improvement Classes' resists the tide of destruction engulfing the old Midland shed at Bath. The turntable was cut up as early as October 1966. The shattered remains of the Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway wooden engine shed lie mangled and twisted on the left. Running lines still remain on the right as goods traffic continued to be handled in Midland Bridge Yard until June 1971 after which large numbers of condemned box vans were held here for the next 12 months or so the final working out of Bath being in April 1972. From a private collection of slides of the Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway, taken in the year following closure of the line in 1966.
