Description: This survey by Thomas Thorpe identified all the tenants for different plots of land and the rent they were required to pay. The map allowed the principal landowner, Robert Gay, to assess the current value of his land and determine how much more profit could be generated through future building developments, including the soon to be built Gay Street. This map is a nineteenth century copy of the original, certified by G.P. Manners, who studied the art of surveying whilst working under Charles Harcourt Masters and later became City Architect.
