Description: The scale of this map has been reduced and the size increased to accommodate the ever expanding city. The Georgian city had by now reached the heights of Lansdown Place (now known as Lansdown Crescent), completed in 1793. This plan is fascinating for the proposed developments shown that were never built. The enormous Frances Square and the more modest Lansdown and Hanover Squares are outlined on the map but the financial crash at the end of the eighteenth century meant that they were never constructed.
