Description: The forty years between the plan from 1793 and this map saw a change in Bath's fortunes. The Georgian expansion of the city was halted by a financial crisis at the end of the eighteenth century and many grand schemes had to be abandoned. More modest developments, such as Cavendish Crescent (1815-1830), were undertaken though these could still be very risky - in this case the speculative builder was bankrupt in 1825. The map also anticipates the Victorian era, with the arrival of the railway and the addition of 'Royal Victoria Park' superimposed on the border.
