Description: This pictorial map is one of the earliest examples of a new type of map for visitors. In many ways it refers back to the 'bird's-eye view' approach to mapping used in the seventeenth century by Savile, Speed and Gilmore. Amongst the modern developments illustrated, there are a large number of car parks shaded in red including the new multi-deck car park at the bottom of Avon Street. Charlotte Street car park is also shown, occupying the area that some earlier maps describe as 'BARTON FIELDS never to be built on'.
