Description: The old wooden turnspit wheel and fireplace at the George Inn, Lacock. The turnspit dog is an extinct breed that was trained to turn the wheel (see below) which was connected to a spit over an open fire that would rotate and cook the meat evenly. No. 1, Royal Crescent has a mock-up of this arrangement in their display.
