Description: On Wednesday 8th September 1915, the band of the 3rd Dragoon Guards played a joint afternoon concert with the Bath Municipal Band in Sydney Gardens; the Dragoons' bandmaster wanted to repay the city for hospitality he had received while recuperating here and brought his band from Newport, where the 3rd Dragoons were stationed at the time. More than 100 wounded soldiers from the city's war hospitals were in attendance for the afternoon concert. There were two concerts on the day and each drew an audience around 1,000 strong. The wounded soldiers were served tea by nurses from the baths and were presented with buttonholes, cigarettes and fruit; the detail of the photograph reveals wounded soldiers (and a sailor!), nurses, buttonholes and cigarettes, as well as tea and cake! The wall in the background is the parapet above the railway.
