Description: Henry Chappell (1874-1937) became famous over night with his poem 'The Day' published in the Daily Express on 22nd August 1914. It was translated into many languages. He became known as the 'Bath Railway Poet' as he was a porter on Bath Spa Station. He also wrote a book about the railway called 'Life on the Iron Road'. Unofficially it was suggested he should become the new Poet Laureate. He was friends with Rudyard Kipling and knew other famous poets of the time.
Photographed by T.C. Leaman, the Corridor, Bath.
