Description: Showing the wholesale vegetable market in front of New Market Row on the left. The spire of St. Michael's Church above the bridge on which extra wooden extensions have appeared and an additional chimney, spoiling the Georgian symmetry.
Photograph from the original calotype negative by Rev. Francis Lockey. The Rev. Francis Lockey lived in Swainswick and between 1849 and 1861, photographed Bath and the surrounding area, using the calotype process. This unique record is amongst the earliest surviving photographic collections of the area (No. 100).
