Description: Born in Tisbury, Wiltshire, Jay originally trained as a stonemason and worked on Fonthill House, before becoming a minister. By 18 he had preached in Rowland Hill's church at Surrey Chapel, London and was also minister of Argyle Street Chapel 1791-1853. Lithograph dedicated to Earl of Northesk, 'He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief' Isaiah Chapter 53, Verse 3. To the Right Honble. the Earl of Norfolk, this Lithographic Drawing is most respectfully Dedicated by his Lordships most obliged & devoted Servant, William Henry Hutchisson.
