Description: The pillars were erected as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of 50 years of William Jay's preaching in Argyle Chapel, 2nd February 1841. The inscription notes that the foundation was laid by Thomas Tuppen in 1788 and it was opened in 1789 by William Jay, who was ordained its minister on 30th January 1791.
