Description: Irish-born Charles Baggs (1806-1845) was Vicar Apostolic of the Western District and Rector of the English College in Rome. Consecrated Bishop of Pella in January 1844, he was appointed to fill the office of Vicar Apostolic following the death of Bishop Baines later that year. He died on 16th October 1845 and was buried in the partially completed St. Paul's Church at Prior Park. His remains were removed a few years later, first to Midford Chapel, then to Arnos Vale Cemetery. Surmounted by his coat of arms showing his bishop's hat and tassels. See Image Ref. 41784.
