Description: A dreadful conflagration in Prior Park House occurred on 30th May. A great crowd appeared to spectate. Some attempt was made to save some of the bishop's books, pictures etc., though the organ in the private chapel was saved as the fire barely touched this part of the building. Insured for only £6,000, the loss is thought to total £12,000 to 15,000.
Newspaper cutting from the Bath Chronicle, 2nd June 1836 (column two of four). See Image Refs. 41808, 41811 and 41812.
