Description: View from the northeast corner of Kingsmead Square with Kingsmead Street on the right. On the corner, James Lydiard was a butcher at 1, Kingsmead Street. This house is one of the rare survivals of Baroque architecture in Bath. Note by Hunt: This house has been erroneously designated as the house of the Chapman family. It was built in 1732 by Mister Rosewell. The shield over the attic window above the street door bears a rose and a date, 1732. The house was advertised to be let October 22nd 1744 (Bath Journal). Alderman Chapman was chosen Mayor of Bath September 24th 1744 and he lived at 7 or 9, Kingsmead Square.
