Description: The 3rd Duke of Bedford (1708-1732) was a gambler, to the detriment of his fortune. Some sharpers at Bath, including Beau Nash and the Drury Lane theatre manager, set up a game of Hazard with loaded dice, but they switched out the dice before the Duke realised and he lost nearly £60,000 to them. He only found out when the conspirators argued over dividing the £5,000 he could pay and Nash admitted the scheme to him.
