Description: Born in Tisbury, Wiltshire, Jay originally trained as a stonemason and worked on Fonthill House, before becoming a minister. By 18 he had preached in Rowland Hill's church at Surrey Chapel, London and was also minister of Argyle Street Chapel 1791-1853.
