Description: This curious allegorical map comes from Michael Drayton's Poly-olbion, a poetic work about the countryside of England and Wales. The maps were all engraved by William Hole. The Wiltshire map covers the area occupied by the counties of Wiltshire and Somerset. There is little topographical detail apart from the rivers which are depicted with their associated nymphs or goddesses and hilltops with shepherds and shepherdesses. There were three editions of Poly-olbion published in 1612, 1613 and 1622. In the last edition a page number was added. From Drayton's Polyobion engraved by 10 Holo 1612, E.A. Tues?
