Description: Wood uses the view by Dr. Jones to draw attention to the T shape of the principal roads which he believes refers to a 'Captive Typhon', an ancient Egyptian symbol that could cure diseases. Wood claims this map was published in 1572, if this is true then it would predate the maps by Savile and Speed. However, it is probable that Dr. Jones published his map in the seventeenth century as it is almost certainly based on Speed's map of 1610. "A Copy of Dr. Jones's VIEW of the CITY of BATH, as it was Published in the Year MDLXXII". From "An Essay Towards a Description of Bath" by John Wood, 1749, 2nd edition, Vol. 1, Part 1, following p.84. See Image Refs. 10101, 30575, 50667 and 51112.
