Description: This magnificent photograph shows a group of brave men who have climbed on top of the wood that has been swept downstream (possibly from Holme's timber merchants in Image Ref. 53962) and is blocking the narrow arches of the bridge. In the far distance, a group of people looking down Southgate Street at the edge of the floodwater, which appears to have reached Lower Borough Walls.
