Description: Pilu was a celebrity dog, performing all over the world, making a fortune for his owner. He was, unfortunately, run over by a truck shortly after this painting was finished.
Painted by John Charlton (1849-1917), oil on canvas. From the north of England, Charlton was well known for his illustrations of battle scenes, but he also specialised in animal portraits. He died shortly after both his sons were killed in action in 1916.
