Description: Hetty Riviere, daughter-in-law of the artist with a black dog. She later donated this portrait to the Victoria Art Gallery.
Painted by Briton Riviere (1840-1920), oil on canvas. From a family of artists of Hugenot descent, his uncle founded the Bath-based bookbinders Riviere's. Briton was known for his animal portraiture, which he incorporated into this portrait.
