Description: This embroidered silk satin shoe is one of a pair worn by Mary Chamberlain, wife of Birmingham’s mayor and MP Joseph Chamberlain. The couple travelled to Paris regularly to update her wardrobe. These shoes are part of a larger collection of dresses belonging to Mary Chamberlain at the Fashion Museum, with many pieces worn during her time as hostess of Highbury, the Chamberlain family residence in Moseley, Birmingham.
