Jane Austen's Bath
These images reflect the city as it was known by Bath’s most famous resident, Jane Austen. Two of her novels are set partly in Bath: Persuasion and Northanger Abbey.
Jane Austen moved to the city in 1801 with her parents. During the years she lived in the city she paid many visits to the theatre, attended balls at the Assembly Rooms, shopped, visited the Pump Room and Pleasure Gardens. She also walked a lot, along the canal tow path and to local villages.
